Make Yourself Heard campaign
Make Yourself Heard is a police campaign about how to get urgent help from the police when someone is unable to speak. This can be particular useful for victims of domestic abuse who are in the same house as the perpetrator.  After dialing 999 if the caller is unable to speak or make any sounds then you will be prompted to press 55. This will inform the police you are a genuine caller and not just a hoax or a dialing error – find out more about Make Yourself Heard.

Internet browsing

If you are not feeling safe:

  • Browse in a private space
  • Use a private browsing window. This means that your browsing history will not be saved and no cookies will be set. Here are instructions for how to do this in Chrome, instructions for Safari and instructions for Microsoft Edge
  • Have another tab or window open in the background that would be very normal for you to be visiting such as BBC News. If your privacy is compromised you can quickly revert to this site
  • If you suddenly need to close your browser window, the keyboard shortcuts will make it quicker. These are Command-W on a mac or Control-W on a PC

Safeguarding Children

The safety and welfare of children - or safeguarding - is everyone's business. Berkshire West have produced lots of helpful information for parents and carers on safeguarding children. The website is a dedicated page with lots of information and advice for our children, parents, carers and practitioners. It covers subjects such as domestic abuse, emotional health, financial help, coping strategies for new parents, home schooling, keeping children safe online and leaving children at home.

They have also produced lots of information on safeguarding for babies: keeping babies safe from abuse, dealing with infant crying and safe sleeping.
