The Getting Help Team supports children, young people, and their families (aged 5-18) who have emerging, mild or moderate mental health difficulties such as low mood, worries and anxiety, which may be affecting their day-to-day life.
There is a different service offer across the East and West of Berkshire.
We offer evidence-based brief interventions directly that can last up to eight sessions, as well as advice and help in accessing the most appropriate support when we are unable to offer direct help, such as connecting the child or young person to another services, including internal transfers within CAMHS, and to partnering third sector services.
For those under 12, our team of child wellbeing practitioners offer parent-led and guided self-help interventions: Helping Your Child with Fears and Worries and the Incredible Years Parenting Programme.
For those over 12, our child wellbeing practitioners offer individual one-to-one informed CBT therapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).
The Getting Help Teams offer support to children and young people who do not attend a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) school. Please see more information about the service offer for a child or young person that attends a school with a mental health support team available.
The Getting Help Team East is partnered with the local authority and the Early Help Services across Slough, Bracknell, and the Royal Borough Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead (RBWM).
Referrals can be made by a professional (eg GP, school staff) or parent/carer. Those over the age of 16 can self-refer.
Referrals can be made by completing a multi-agency referral form (MARF). The MARF forms are triaged by the front door team in your local children’s services and then directed to early help services based on their identified need. Please see the local authority websites below to access their MARF.
The website link may include details regarding child abuse or safeguarding concerns, however please do scroll down to the link to make a referral to the getting help team, regardless of whether the opening title to the website doesn’t feel relevant to the how the young person presents.
